Sumthin happenin on the 6th of October? I dunno?

As we're rounding up this year of 2025, i'm allready looking up to 2026!

As I'm getting messages (!) from beyond..

Yes.. my latest dream consisted of this date: 6th of october, and the fact my brother has something to do with it.. having a child, a girl with the name Frances..

How spooky that is, it's really quite remarkable, just dreaming about it..

After a quick search a couple of things actually happend in the past on the 6th of October

6oktoberWIKI - but nothing in my family.

But nonetheless it could be a date that resemblance something of the future!? Maybe my brother will make me an aunt? Who knows..

But specific, the name Frances? What about that?! Will be putting it on my agenda for the future, to remind me of this weirdly day.. Will catch up on that.

You know? I actually googled Frances AND the 6th of October. I actually got an interesting hit!

Oh wel.. will be counting down! =)

Happy new year!

About Mary - Frances:...

Also: sint francis (Fransiscus) his name day is on the 4th of October! (because that's world-animal day!)

Saint Mary Frances of the Five Wounds of Jesus
  • Life: Born Anna Maria Rosa Gallo in Naples in 1715, she joined the Third Order of St. Francis at age 16 after defying an arranged marriage to a cruel man. She took the name Mary Frances, inspired by the devotion of the Virgin Mary and St. Francis of Assisi to Jesus on the Cross.
  • Mystical Experiences: She was known for her intense meditation on Christ's Passion, during which she experienced daily weeping and eventually received the stigmata and other mystical sufferings.
  • Death and Legacy: She died on October 6, 1791, as she had prayed to be taken before the tragic events of the French Revolution, which she had prophesied. She was beatified by Pope Gregory XVI and canonized as a saint in 1867 by Pope Pius IX.

Books that marked my youth..

So, once upon a time I commited to reading every day in this big book about 366 days.
The stories (more or less just one page - a whole story) depicts the life of American squirrels and their friends =)

Copyright: MCMLXXXV - first published in 1985 - translated in 86. This book is just 40 years old!!

Dutch translate: R. Vooren.
Authur: Linda Hayward.  (More about the author)
Illustrations: Amye Rosenberg.
Published by Deltas: Aartselaar/Harderwijk.

It starts on the 25th of December: we meet the family squirel: Not the european tree-to-tree squirrel, but the American Ground squirrel! That looks like this..

Maybe coincidence or not, but we once owned a ground squirrel! It lived in a cage in our livingroom at the old appertment in Deinze.. It lived for about 3 years (or 2 years) it escaped quite often (and we had a looooooad of shit (furnture!) and we managed to capture it every time. It died when in hibernation, he just never woke up again. I can't remember when this was.. Must have been somewhere between 2000 till 2004.

So the family squirrel:
Zip (the brother)
Mother Squirrel
Kibby (sister)
Father Squirrel

Buffy the squirrel (tree)
Willy raccoon.
Barend Beaver
Oehoe Owl

It ends on 25th of december!
I was so in love with the black and white pictures of the animals :) and was so invested in their little lives of every day!

Don't know yet if I can toss the book away.. after all this time, it kinda owns that place in my bookcase..

xx
Sara

Ohyeah.. the pages of the book up above are actually the most meaningfull to me! It's the birthdays of me,  my kids, my man and my brother ;)
I kinda read it a lot, it stayed under my bed, it was there always..
When I was in my first house, (when my parens were still together) the house, a desperate fix-an-upper who was never treated like that, so it remained a house in bad shape for the many years I lived there.

I have many many memories of my room, my window (1 layer glass) that looked out the garden. The birds (sparrows) who would wake me up with their chirps of a nest nearby)
the old petroleum heater in the hallway.. the very steep stairs, where my brother got 2 scars from falling down... ... the hours I played with my barbies. The little trinkets I collected (from horses to ballet stuff) the little ballet figurines my daughter had now.. the white desk I had for studying and when the first computer first set foot to the house.. (must have been somewhere in 1996-1997) it was only good for playing a couple of stuff (mentioned on the blogpost about nostalgia day at my brothers place) .. playing with lots of disks.. those were the days:
where I played CARMEN SANDIEGO (in French) on the commodore 64. The software was allready 10 years old by then. Or alley cat, or nitrogen or all those other things..

oh dear, thank god no children were harmed at my house from the stairs! Yes, maybe the odd falling on their behinds, but never on their head!

I remember T took a fall on a radiator pipe on his head. (at the back) when he was about 4 or 5..
I remember A took a fall when playing on her new and big bed and fell on her back - with the head on the head board.. she even played like nothing happend.. when she was about 2..
I remember T making jumps onto something at the EFTELING.. so we rode back to a Belgian hospital (that was about 3 years ago)

ah wel.. little kids, little problems.. big kids.. you know..

My father remained living in the house, only a few years ago he and his new wife purchased another house, about 10 houses down.. Now he has a fishpond and a nice modern house. Good for him and his family. My mother just owns a caravan.. (but formarly she had 2) What's wrong with this sentence?

So.. I did it!

Het vliegend paard

I finally got the book from another library! I took me about 1 hour reading :) And it absolutely remembered some things about it! Especially the beautiful drawings.

Firstly, the details:
Author: TON VAN REEN: (30 augustus 1941) More at Wiki
Writes childrens books and adult novels.
This particular book came out in 1988!
Illustrations by Rolf De Bruin

I loved the pictures! About the story, it's a good childdrens book, kind of chilly, fairytale meets fantasy. Maybe it was this book who triggered my 'love' for the obscure, vampires and stuff..
Liked it ;)

Was quite fond of this one quote: It's just about chocolate milk: here goes:

In English now?

Once people are adults, they sometimes long for the time they were children. That's why most people keep something from their childhood in their honor. Some people collect dolls to dream of the past, while others drink chocolate milk to recapture the taste of that time...

This.. right in the nostalgic feels.. could this be? Yes.

Much greetings
xx Sara

Dragons dragons dragons galore! (no it's not game of thrones OR House of the dragon - related!)

 Hi Blog..

This time another blast from the past,.. with the findings of this little gem!

Some 100 years ago.. (I think it must have been in the second OR the fifth year.. (either way it was with a teacher I had 2 times in my elementary.. ) yuk. Between the ages of 8 to 10.

I got the assignment making something with clay, I desperatly wanted it to be a dragon. Nevertheless i failed miserebly! It was so bad I took the clay home and knowing my mother was a wee bit more creative than me, she actually finished the product. I was soooooo proud of the wee thing! At school I got to paint the whole thing and it stayed on teachers closet (above the blackboard) for like the entire schoolyear.

A few years later, I attempted another try and just duplicated the thing. (I think when I was in highschool for an art class or so)

Now it's really the time to throw them away, as i'm far to clingy for sentimental stuff.. (in the end it stayed with me till 2025! (and I think its from somewhere from 1993 or 1996) It has holes and pieces missing and it's been put with glue together for too maaaaaany times.. Even today, for recapturing soms nostalgia for this photo! Goodbye youth.

(small anecdote: the claypieces were wrapped in some newspaper from 4th of november 2010)

Actually, there are like a few things my mom kind of 'finished' for me while in (elementary) school.. I'm not sure that's a good thing really, but she litteraly saved my back sometimes..

Thank you mom.

--> Edit.. you know the little play dragon (Pete's dragon) from a few posts earlier? I actually asked my mother about it AND she did remember this thingamajigy.. from the old days.. how great is this? here's the post about it!!

=) Gotta love my mother!

Barbie wannabee

So.. a jump back in time... now with AALLL of my barbie stuff I once owned/had.. but now lost in nooks, crannies and vacuumcleaners..
These are my prides of the 90's.. not complete anymore, but still my pride from back in the day.. Let's start with this gem: Most of them donated to my little girl.. who really likes to play with barbies! Joy!

PINK'n Pretty House by Barbie (from 1995)
Still got it.. it has some decoloring, and the plastic kinda is brittle but it still does the job.. Now passed on to my little girl.. (who doesn't respect the Barbie House at all, like I used too!!) I even have some parts of the 'patio furnitures' left!
Still to be found online! Even this old add from 95: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3Q-nVo2tgg

BUTTERFLY PRINCESS (Barbie) -- 1994

Ocean friends Barbie with KEIKO! (1995-1996) ) Barbie somewhat jumped that Free willy wave as well.. BOLD move Mattel, Bold move.. but héy.. I got one! =D So it worked like a charm..
Still have it.. loved it! Also the legs went black or pale with hot water.. =) kinda cool..
Honorbly mention: a barbie ad from 1996

And now this gem..
I long believed it was a kind of Barbie, but when searching pictures for my blog, I found it registered on the name: SINDY The Fairy princess (1993 -1994)
loved, loved loved this doll series! Not to associate with Barbie at all.. but a good replica (and probably in times of financial distress for my mother, a cheaper variant and kind of same look for Barbie)
I still have the wings/doll/prince/ I also had the carriage, but the horse it's only thing left from this piece..
I actually have more stuff with 'Sindy' on it as well.. Thought she was another sister from Barbie.. (but no, Barbie has 3 sisters: Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea.

Baywatch Barbie (1994) On the waves of another famous tvshow - Baywatch!

Disney's Pocahontas - Shining Braids (1995)

Powhattan Village set (Pocahontas) 1995.
Still have it somewhere, not given to my daughter yet.

Barbie DREAM BOAT Playset - Ultimate Seaside Adventure (1994)
Yes. Still got it, the cocktailmaker doesn't work anymore unfortunatly, but it worked smoothly for milkshakes back in the day!

Barbie FOLD'n FUN house (1994)
I cannot remember owning this piece exactly, but it still rings a bell somewhat..
I even have pieces (the floor, a light, some furniture,..) from that house! So I must have owned it at some time!!?

My oldest barbie:
MERMAID BARBIE (1991-1992)
the wholy grail! The real deal! I still got this one.. loved it to bits!!
I even found it there are a few in this series..

And also a gold one!

What about this commercial?!! I was mesmerized when I was 6 or 7..

Barbie stable and horse NIBBLES (1996)
My last piece I think...?
I still have most pieces! A. playes it, but is kinda sloppy.. so only when she cleans it up very well, she gets to play with the stable =)

Well there you have it.. Barbie is still an icon.. from back in the 50's.. Still going strong in 2025!!

Here is another anecdote from back in the day..
one day I had THE screenplay of my life (for my barbies) in mind.. I was going to play the WHOLE book of ' THE FLYING HORSE ' (het vliegend paard) with BARBIE..
I can still remember it so well.. I don't know for sure if I did the whole book, but I see myself still sitting and reading aloud (playing some kind of barbie movie) with this book! It took quite a few hours. Was about 10 at the time I think..
What was my motivation to tell this book just for me? I can't remember that book very well, but at the time it impressed my big time, I took it from the library quite often I recall. Time to revisit this book!

I think I played barbie till the age of 12!! Can you image that?? 12 y.o these days don't play barbies no more I guess, pity!
I secretly love to clean up the mess my daughter makes after playing with barbie.. rearanging the furnitures, sorting every clothing, shoe, ...  its kind off soothing to me.. (not playing) but destressing I presume? Could it be??

Back in the day I really had much Barbie stuff.. so many clothes.. my mother made them in her lifetime (somewhere end 50-60's) so I had so much! Unfortunately my barbie stuff got stained sitting in a wet garage, so I had to thrown a lot away.. but I still hold on a few things! =)

Now i'm off to finally wathing that BARBIE MOVIE.. (haven't seen it yet...)

I think with all the fastforward buttons on every device, we miss a lot of childrens ads for toys... (or at least I think so) back in the day we only had commercials every 15 minutes, so yes, we were severe influenced by that!.. Maybe the influence  by tv is fading away.. the children (T&A) now like to look in commercial books rather they say they spotted somthing on tv they like..

This year Sinterklaas is bringing a SWITCH 2 to the house.. as this stupid thing costs over 500 euros.. sinterklaas allready decided it will only be the thing and some chocolates.. nothing more, nothing less.
This game will benefit everyone in the house, also dad and mom can particpate in cute games with MARIO!! YAY!! A nintendo in the house again after allllll those freaking PLAYSTATION YEARS (Spit spitt)

We also like to thank T and A for chipping in a few euros too.. they got many giftcards for their birthdays last august and september and I suggested maybe they could give away a giftcard for Sinterklaas,.. every euro is worth it!
