I heard this song and I laughed so hard! Thank you Melvins.. I really needed this!
I love it!!
More about this band.. who really 'fucked' big time with 'Get around' (original from the Beach Boys!! and one of my favorite songs :))
(from wiki)
Melvins (sometimes the Melvins) are an American rock band formed in 1983[1] in Montesano, Washington. Their early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal.[2] Primarily a trio, they have also performed as a quartet, with either two drummers or two bassists. Since 1984, vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover have been constant members.
To be quite honest here.. I actually thougt of that BLACK HOLE named Gargantua.. but it was nothing like that out of space mumbo jumbo.... it's about a lizard monster.. (rings any bell??)
A rip-off Godzilla.. I couldn't watch it because the story sucked and the CGI was abominabel! This movie is from 1998 and in the trivia section of IMDB it states that it came out in the same time of that other MONSTER MOVIE.. by the name of Godzilla..
Gargantua was a typical B-CLASS movie.. but nonetheless it actually produced a young 'Emile Hirsh'.. the guy who went to play 'Chris McCandles' in 'INTO THE WILD!'.. (so thats quite cool)
=O and I did not whatsoever taped this movie on this cassette! I think it was my mom :p.. cos she liked this kind of movies.. (I think)
BUT THEN...
NEXT ON was this gem.. actually a typically BCLASS teen - coming of age - movie that shook my whole existence and made me a huge fan of the werewolf franchise..
YES.. this kind of movie shaped my teenage years.. and to this day I still love the idea of 'werewolfs'.. but in that day and age i was quite influenced by other 'magical' (in my eyes) beings.. such as witches, mermaids, fairies and also vampires and stuff like that!!!
In AWIP.. we actually see really bad CGI effects of the werewolfs, really really bad.. keep in mind this movie is from 1997.. in forthcoming movies, the werewolfs keep on getting better and better!!
Tom Everett scott plays a cool tween, and is on tour with 2 of his best (sidekicks for humor) in Europe, next stop 'Paris'.. Where they meet the adorable 'Julie Delpy'.. Who just tried to kill herself by jumping off the Eiffel tower, .. but our lead saves her by bungee jump! Yes.. it's that style of movie! ALthough its a complete mess, I just loved everything 'wolfie' about it.. It's about the sudden loss of innocence and having to find some responsability! =)
And what-do-ya-know.. after looking thinsg up (yes - I watched the movie yesterday back after a good 22 years..) cos I believe I taped this was somewhere in 2000-2001 when it came out on tv.. (on VT4! at that time) It sparked my love for dark humour too =)
and was propelled back to that day and age, with even advertisement of that age! I was soaking wet in 2000!! And it felt GOOOOOOOOOODDDDD.. i' didnt' care for any sleep that night..
Well.. about the actors..
TOM EVERETT SCOTT aged like a fine wine... (and he resemblance Mic a little bit :D)
He was one of my crushes.. back in the day.. from this. in 1997
And I must say.. this was actually my type of man.. Brownhaired, blue or browneyed men with lots of humor and a great smile :)
to this anno 2024 :D
And yes.. I found you JULIE BOWEN!
Well this girl.. who was certainly lost in this genre/movie .. Went on to play...
Someone on 'MODERN FAMILY!'. (yes.. Claire!!) Well WHatdayaknow!
DROP MIC!!!!
(no not Mic :) the microphone)
other actors are quite famous too :) more in the tv-shows genre :)
What concerns my fascination of werewolfs.. i always look for the more real wolf type - resemblance and transformation..
Not the wolf from the harry potter movies, that werewolf is BALD and a bit sad, but more or less like the cute wolf from the twilight series, but that's just a cute big wolf.. or even better from 'van helsing'.. thats the best in my humble opinion.. but hey, that's for another blogpost no?
AND then..
the most embarasing moment of my life..
I must have been about 15 to 16 years old... but I phoned in on a tv station (JIM TV) and I had a little (embarrasing chat with that host.. THOMAS VANDERVEKEN) about eldery people and I was a little bit akward.. and I taped myself.. CRINGE MOMENT!!!!! =)
But here it is... you can hear my sweet little voice of a 15 year old sara.. there is proof!
And I NEVER EVER Want to hear of it again!! =P
ON that tape, was another episode of BUFFY that I didn't remember.. although.. A little coincidende, but recently I read that the epi where Buffy finds her deceased mother was one of her best (shouldhavewonanoscar!) performances, so I checked it out on YT (just a month or 2 ago) and the epi I watched was just the one BEFORE this ep! What a coincidence! (season 5, episode 15).. (aired on the 20th of february in 2001 in US)... but see below when it aired in BELGIUM!!
Afterwards I just saw numerous advertisements of that other channel from way back...
KANAAL 2.. and I recognised so many things! I was literally back in the year 2000!!!
It eventually ended with an episode of big brother (season 2) and I could figure out from which year this must have aired.
Big brother 2 aired from 2th of september 2001 til the 16th of december 2001.. I taped accidently episode 'day 100'.. so it must have been:....... 11th of December 2001! give or take, it could also be the 12th :))
I really really disliked Big brother and did not watch it, cos I wasn't into reallife tv at that time.. I had Angel, Buffy, Charmed, Winx and other better stuff to watch :)
And as a little extra...
I have found these 2 makings offs of An American Werewolf in PARIS!
Oh God..
If I see these making offs.. I always wonder what would have become of me if i did went to Filmschool in Brussels when I was younger..
I was deeply interested by movies and tv and when I brought home the pamflet for new students of het RITS (Brussels) I already knew I would never dare to go there, nor would I get permition to go there whatsoever. What a pity I couldn't even get it over my heart to ask it to my mother..
Although I went to school to become just a childcarer (or elderly carer) it was just presumable I went into that direction of 'caring'.. so it automatically went into going for teacher, although i had more then one interest..
oh well.. sometimes it stings a little that my other siblings did get the chance to do what they love... and I went with 'the rest' and the safe option.
Always the safe option,.. that not really wrong, is it?
Yesterday the great Shannen Doherty lost her battle with cancer.. she was battling this since 2015 already! Such sad news..She was only 53 years old and leaves a magical legacy behind.. from playing 'Prue' on my favorite show ever (CHARMED) to playing on BH90201..
I can remember watching these (kind of) movies (then on tv) with my grandma, when she and my granddad were living in Brugge!! My mother recorded everything.. My grandparent lived in Brugge: From 1989 till 20 october 1994!!
These particular movies were no jokes and sunshine.. but the 'real' adaption of fairy tales.. the not-so-sunny version of Cinderella and Sleeping beauty are on this cassette.. with no welknown actors, and from a colab between a couple of lands (like Germany - Slovakia,.. and so on.. ) and were eventually dubbed in English.. (oh the horror!)
These were straight-to-tv movies.. but have the brothers Grimm as their storie tellers..
The movie Cinderella (or Aschenputtel) was originally a German movie - but I cannot find the true origin of the Sleeping Beauty movie.. (it looks like polish - but I have no clue)
And.. We can all find éverything on YT these days.. and this is no exeption:
the whole movie of Cinderella.. (english dub)
the movie of Sleeping Beauty is somewhat harder to find.. I find it in so many different languages and even subtitles.. (Spanish!) but not the english dub version (yet)
but the earie decors, clothing, sound effects actors, story still gives me the heebiejeebies.. and I just adored the greatness, and beautifull actresses (and actors who plays the prince :D)
The actor that played the prince in Sleeping beauty turns out to have had a whole carreer, with even playing in Inglorious Bastards!! (Movie By Tarantino)
and last but not least..
this cassette ends on a positive note.. 1 song by Samson en Gert! (from 19 june of 1992!)
Do you guys now who Samson and Gert is?
These 2 stands at the beginnings of Studio 100.. a multi corporation aimed at kids.. and it only started with these 2.. and now all those years later, Studio 100 produced many, many many more figures aimed at different ages.. like PLOP (leprachaun PLOP) or Pirate Piet, or Mega Mindy and even BUMBA (clown).. And many more! Yes.. they are the most succesfull export product from Belgium! What a idea!!
Having kind of a MARIE KONDO moment here.. :) I'm cleaning the attic.. and it def.. feels good!
That means,.. getting rid of my past as well.. and all the VCR-cassetes lying around.. everything is nowadays found on the internet (OR disney+) so I can throw them ALL away... they take a shitload of place in.. so in with the bin!
But not before I list all of the content on those cassetes onto my precious blog!!
Some kind of listing of past interest! (and of my mother too off course)
In the next few days/post.. i'll be posting content of all my CASSETES that stayed with me.. bear with me hé.. did you know..
--> one day in the early 2000 i took it upon me creating every tag to every cassette, meaning i would watch all of them the whole day through and writing all of the content on the tags.. yes.. i was that obsessed. (and actually ill that day, i stayed home from school.. yes i was really ill..
I actually even numbered them as well.. As in the past I would love to play some kind of VCR renting business like 'videopalace' that used to exist in Deinze.. where you could find EVERY MOVIE :=) those were the days :) and playing the same to my friends who would come in and loan (rent hé!) a movie of mine :D
first one up! CASETTE number 5
So..
This cassette starts with a golden oldie.. one of my (also my mothers) favorite song..
'Somethings gotten hold of my heart'... a cover from gene pitney
but this cover version contains the lovely: Marc Almond:
This song came out in 1988!! (but exist even longer.. from the 1960's)
then it said: BASSIE en Adriaan:
This dutch duo (clown and circus acrobat) entertained a whole generation of kids from the 1980's to the early 90's.. .. they were much fun and went on many many adventures.. to this day I still love them.. and even uses their signature endsong in my class (at the end of the day..)
"dag vriendjes,.. dag vriendinnetjes.. dit was het dan alweer! Dag vriendjes, dag vriendinnetjes.. tot de volgende keer maar weer!"
This was the episode on the cassette: BASSIE SCHIET EEN BOK.
this particular episode was released on 28 november 1986! (when I was just 1 year and 2 monts old!)
but the humor never gets old! As I saw my son (born in 2015) laughing hard with it too!
I'm pleased to see the brothers are still alive, born in 1942 and 1935, makes them now: 89 and 82! damn.. that's old! (the day of that episode they were already in their 'late' 40's!)
and who could forget that iconic car with the headlights that could be closed AND the giant eye lashes they had glued on.. so cool too!
Next..
off course.. many of my VHS cassettes have A LOT of micky Mouse shorts or Donald Duck or Goofy shorts.. (yes.. I COLLECTED them éééévery time.. that was LONG before DVD entered my life.. )
these were the cartoons present on this cassette:
"All in a nutshell" - cartoon Donald Duck: release date: 2 september 1949.. (75 years old!)
"Mickey down Under": Micky mouse and Pluto: 19 maart 1948!
"The Big wash".. cartoon by Goofy! (1948) with the iconic: 'imma gonna wash Dolores!'.. loved it!
Mr Mouse takes a trip: release date: 1 november 2040!
WITH honorable mention of this piece of gem lurking around Youtube..
the side by side voice recordings of ALL the original voices with MR DISNEY HIMSELF!!!!
Ah.. the wonderful world of voice acting.. Once I wanted to do the same.. turns out i have a boring voice! LOL
THE LAST PIECE of content: BLACKBEARDS Ghost: (8 feb 1968)
This last piece includes a movie.. also by Disney.. (and I actually watched it again last night.. in much higher resolution than the VHS can EVER provide.. namely.. i found this movie on DISNEY+! YAY!!
and the wellknown Dean Jones.. who played in a lot of disney flms!
(the million dollar duck, the horse in the grey flanel suit.. and many more)
Lovable pirate with cool australian accent 'mate', good acting from Dean Jones's part as the annoyed gym teacher/coach.. saw a lot of strings.. but hey, CGI wasn't even conceived yet at that time and day...(!) but quite good movie.. a lot of the actors/Actresses have died allready.. BUT the images lives on forever.. well done. The difference seeing this movie when I was young and now is really big. You see a lot of details for the first time and you get the underlying stories so much more then when you're a 'tween'...
And when this movie was released in 1968, my mother was only 16 years old! WHaaaaat????
As you can see allready.. Disney really owned the big screen! :P.. their dominating the (movie)world! still do obviously..
Ohyes..
after the movie of blackbeard.. there was a piece left with a bit of time, of that other movie 'pete's dragon.. also a beautiful gem out of the disney vault.. and it fueled my passion for dragons too :D
=D
THATS IT FOR NOW FOLKS!! =) Stay 'tuned' for more!
