Dear blog...
My young self recently had a great field trip back in time... when I came across this scene... lying in bed with with my phone and my daughter watching crap (when I was suppose to get up and get dressed)
down down baby, down down the roller coaster.
Sweet sweet baby, sweet sweet don't let me go.
shimmy shimmy coco pop, shimmy shimmy rock,
shimmy shimmy coco pop, shimmy shimmy rock
I met a girlfriend- a triscuit,
she said a triscuit-a biscuit,
ice cream soda pop
vanilla on the top
oooo Shalida, walking down the street,
ten times a week
I meant it. I said it.
I stole my mama's credit.
I'm cool. I'm hot.
Sock you in the stomach three more times.'
Cos this sounded a lot like a clapping game from the 90's I got to play a lot on the playground in the early life of ME.. (around 8 ish - 9 ish me?)..
Especially the first part:
down down baby, down down the roller coaster.
Sweet sweet baby, sweet sweet don't let me go.
shimmy shimmy coco pop, shimmy shimmy rock,
shimmy shimmy coco pop, shimmy shimmy rock
But in my memory it sounded more like 'jibberish' to me.. even arabic - african maybe?! And in those days.. english was more chinese to me than anything else! (This is how I rememberd it..)
Dam dam Bebe
Dam dam (olé olé)
sweet sweet baby
sweet sweet (olé olé)
Ienimiemi jakadé (
Inieminie jéjé.. (x2)
the next part had less to do with it any more and goes...
Oekaba - oekaba - oe oe oekaba..
schele oogjes - neusje toe..
mondje open.
KIEKEBOE. (flemisch part)
But the resemblance to the upper part is uncanny!! It's just more or less the same!! :) So yes.. It must be related to it somehow..
I investigated a little more into it and found this gem:
WOWsers.. Into the minds of young children...
That reminded me of another popular handclapping game/chant..
the quite scary 'Er is een vrouw vermoord'.. (there was a murder of a woman)
Yes.. it was about a murdered woman.. :P
Er is een vrouw vermoord
Met een gordijnenkoord
Ik heb het zelf gezien
Het was op nummer 10
Het bloed liep langs de trap
Het leek net bessensap
Ik nam er een likje van
Ik werd er misselijk van
Ik belde de politie op
Ik zei mijn naam hardop
Mijn naam is eja Thea
Dikke dikke Thea
Olle bolle whiskie
Elastiek !

There is a whole secion on WIKI about this 'murder'!! :) (and the famous handclapping game)

Daaaang!! :)
Oudere mensen zullen zich dit lied nog wel kunnen herinneren, maar ook de jeugd zingt nog steeds liedjes die van dit lied zijn afgeleid. Een voorbeeld hiervan is het klapliedje Er is een vrouw vermoord.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN? ELDERLY PEOPLE????? I'm defenitly NOT elderly .. thankyouverymuts.
==> One of the mos welknown Patty cake games is this one:

but these sounds quite nice .. According to the one above about the MURDERED WOMAN.. ..
Creepy creepy creepy...
Well.. that's my childhood!
And you know what? It's a shame kids these days don't do handclapping games no more.. Belgian kids are sometimes dull.. hopefully some parents teaches their kids this kind of cultureal games and pass it on..
Ohyeah.. funny anekdote: did I tell you ever about that time in Tunisia where I learned my nieces and nephews the 'AAIKEPOES' game?? :P It's a kind of clapping game :) but more with the emphasis on hitting you hard :P
AAI ke poes (means - strike the nice kitty) its a stroke the hand game - and you have to lay still to the game, you are the kitty.. the others persons hand is the 'stroker'.. and strikes the cat.. you have to put your hand away as fast as you can, before the stroker says bad kitty and slaps your hand!..
After playing this boring game the whole vacation in Tunesia long.. my (arabic) speaking family overthere learned the word 'aaikepoes'.. :P
xxx
See you next time..
KEIKO
PS: When investigating this.. i found it very fulfilling looking this stuff up.. it made me connect with my past.. whereas i'm desperate clinging into/onto...
#gotta love ... MEEEEMORIEEEEES!!!!! (cats singing)
