The final curtain has fallen over 'shoppingcenter 'South' (de Zuid in de volksmond) in Ghent when its finally closing its doors at the end of July..
And I must say.. I was defenitly present when it first opened it's doors back in 1995 ish (or 1996) .. I remember it very well..
I think it was for its opening that my mother was invited with her bobbin lace and she was there a whole weekend i think making and promoting her hobby.. together with other hobbiyists.. (it it even a word?) I remember also very clearly there was a person who made stained glass and my mother did buy a small angel.. I loved the colours of it too.. it was an angel with a blue robe.
And 10 year old me was def. roaming this splendid place .. with four (or was it 5?) floors! I was flabbergasted! There even was a cd store somewhere on the 1st level, and I talked my mothers head off about one particular cd I desperately wanted back then.. And with just a little money from her selling some lace she eventually got me the cd.. (now I would feel bad about it, because she didn't had much money and that was her only source of income back in the day when making bobbin lace was her job aswell as her hobby.... but i was sooooo happy!
This is the cd I'm talking about..
and yes. I still know the lyrics from back to the front.
and yes.. I'm still ashamed about it!! It must have been around december when this occasion took place at Shopping center Zuid.

This is how it looks like!
A few words to describe this?
Majestic - huge from the golden olden days- see through lifts - shops, shops shops - but nevertheless faded glory.. with many shops leaving or closing down .. sad sad sad... I particulary enjoyed the craft and hobby store that was in it.. 'pipoos'..
I'm very curious about it's new 'redestination'.. it's new purpose in life..
It's actually the second building from that square that will be empty or will be re-purposed.. the first to be the BIG HUGE library across the streets where I used to spend MAAAAANNNNYYY hours.. The librrary closed down on the 16th of January 2017 and moved to a bigger locaction a couple of meters further down the street.. The new building is named 'DE KROOK'..
